George Clooney has risen to the heights of stardom and has attained celebrity status from meager professional bit parts on television in the shows "The Facts of Life" and "Roseanne", which eventually led to a leading role as Dr. Doug Ross in the smash hit "ER". During that time he began to test the waters in Hollywood as a leading man, starring in the films "From Dusk till Dawn" and "One Fine Day" before land his breakout role as Batman in "Batman & Robin". A run of commercially successful movies soon followed including "The Perfect Storm" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" in 2000 and "Ocean's Eleven" in 2001, and soon he had established himself among the more bankable stars in the film industry.
To date George Clooney has starred in over 25 feature length movies and has won two Academy Awards - one for Best Picture as a producer of "Argo" and one for Best Supporting Actor in "Syriana". Additionally, Clooney has won a Golden Globe Award for his role in "The Descendants", two Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.
Politically, Clooney has adopted a liberal posture, opposing the war in Iraq, supporting gay marriage and was an avid supporter of losing candidate Hillary Clinton in her 2016 Presidential bid. Clooney is quite active in social and humanitarian issues ranging from ending global atrocities to supporting gay and lesbian rights and a number of other humanitarian relief efforts.
