The film career of Lucille Ball began unceremoniously in the 1930's playing bit parts in a number of works, and few movie fans realize that in these roles she was exposed to some of the biggest and most popular stars of the day. Ball can be seen in everything from Three Stooges shorts to a few Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers works and much more.
Lucille Ball appeared in over 70 movies prior to 1951 when she and husband Desi Arnaz ventured into television with the creation of the "I Love Lucy" show, which ran from 1951 to 1957. Ball was an innovator as a female in the entertainment industry as head of Desilu Studio, the first ever owned and ran by a woman. A huge success that was mainly responsible for most of Ball's wealth, Desilu either produced or supplied production services to many classic television programs such as The Jack Benny Program, I Love Lucy, The Danny Thomas Show, The Real McCoys, My Three Sons, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Gomer Pyle USMC, Hogan's Heroes, Star Trek, That Girl, Mannix and Mission Impossible.
